In ancient geography, Kolchis was an ancient Georgian region and kingdom in the Caucasus, which played an important role in the ethnic and cultural formation of the Georgian nation. Now mostly the western part of Georgia, it was in Greek mythology the home of Aeetes and the sorceress Medea and the destination of the Argonauts. Archeologists believe that the Caucasus is the cradle of Western civilization -- and many of the herbal remedies of these ancient times are still in use there today.
